Frequently Asked Questions
What is counseling like?
Here’s what to expect, step by step; you’ll reach out to me via phone, email, or contact form, and we’ll have an initial consultation call to learn a little about each other and determine if we want to schedule an initial session. I’ll have you fill out some necessary introduction paperwork. When we meet, we’ll discuss more about what you’re seeking counseling for. The first few sessions of counseling will continue to be a process of determining connection and goodness of fit. Throughout the process, I’ll hopefully bring insight, support, and witness into therapeutic relationship, and we can build something together to support healing. Some sessions I may be more active and directive, other times more reflective and listening. I consider therapy a process that takes time to unfold. I believe the space between counseling sessions is an important part of the therapeutic work.
What is it like to work with you in counseling?
I strive to be approachable, kind, honest, and collaborative. I believe counseling is magical, but not magic in and of itself. Like most things in life, counseling is a process, and its dependent on trusting relationship and the goodness of our connection, which takes time to build. It also depends on how we both show up to the work. I am an advocate for check-ins, and continuing to assess if you feel that you are receiving good care.
What makes you different?
I suppose that will eventually be for you to answer! I think there are many great options for counselors, and different counselors can be right for different seasons of life. As my client, I know that I commit to your best care and do not waver. I often like to say I have an expansive definition of counseling, and love to bring creativity to sessions.
What are your fees?
My fees are $150 for an individual session, $165 for a couples/relationship session, and $175 for a family session. Group session price will vary depending on group.
Do you take insurance?
I’m in the process of being credentialed with multiple insurance companies, and will update this when that process is complete! In the meantime, I can offer superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It may be important to call your insurance company to better understand superbill benefits, and I am willing to support you more with you.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
I do offer a sliding scale, based on reported income within a range. If you are interested in sliding scale options, we can discuss this in our initial consultation. I am also affiliated with Open Path Collective and offer limited low fee counseling spots here: https://openpathcollective.org/therapist/christine-lay/
Why rosemary?
Rosemary has traditionally been associated with wisdom, memory, and utilized in ancient medicine. I also wanted something that represents a groundedness in life, including something natural, fresh, and aromatic.
